Information for Camera Clubs and Councils

Each club should have a PSA Club Representative who acts as the liaison between your club and the Society. This person will receive the monthly PSA Journal on behalf of the club and will also receive the newsletter that is sent to clubs by the Vice President of Clubs, Chapters and Councils. The Club Rep is the contact to whom the dues renewal notice will be sent and who acts as the source for all PSA information in the club. The person appointed should be someone who wants to accept this duty and who is willing to be the Club rep for a long term. Clubs should let PSA Headquarters know the name and address of their Club Representative as soon as possible. You can do this by email to hq@psa-photo.org and I ask that you also inform me of this contact.

Basic duties of a club PSA Representative

A PSA representative is the all-around answer person for many activities and programs that the Society offers Camera Clubs and Councils.  The representative should devote some club meeting time to present a phase of PSA activities and functions so as to inform the club membership of what PSA is doing.

The PSA Representative should:

  • Maintain a supply of PSA membership applications

  • Enlist new PSA members from within their club

  • Have knowledge about PSA study groups and portfolios

  • Promote interest in PSA photographic exhibitions

  • Help new entrants with filling out exhibition forms

  • Loan out and maintain a library of PSA Journals

  • Query members about PSA services and ways to improve these services providing feedback to the PSA Region Director and to the Chapters, Clubs & Councils  Vice President and to the PSA Executive Board.

Check out the PSA website

For those not familiar with the Photographic Society of America I would like to invite you to visit the Society's website where you will find:

  • See some great photos in the online Photo Gallery
  • Locate forms for entering international photo exhibitions
  • Find out what is happening in the Society, Chapters and Division activities and other events that are taking place
  • Join PSA or renew your membership on a secure page using your credit card
  • Locate a PSA member's contact information or update your data
  • View the latest PSA Journal cover and download PDF versions of some recent articles
  • Review the Society's bylaws and look up officers and PSA representatives
  • Order from our online Audio Visual catalog
  • The website is at www.psa-photo.org

All member camera clubs that publish a newsletter and/or who maintain a website are invited to participate in two yearly competitions. The PSA International Bulletin Contest receives several hundred entries from all over the world each year and it is broken down into several divisions - small club, large club, chapter and societies - plus there are special awards for creative use of front page, calendar, etc.

NEW FOR CAMERA CLUBS:

Newly drawn and updated plans on building a Print Viewing Box to PSA standards have just been released.  You can download those plans by clicking on PLANS.  It is an Adobe Acrobat PDF file so you do need Acrobat Reader - version
6 or higher - in order to read the file and to print the details.  The file is around 500 KB in size.

PSA has a slide show with taped commentary entitled "This is PSA" that can be borrowed to show to your club members just for the cost of shipping.  The program answers the questions about the various divisions of the society, the annual conference, and other facets of PSA accompanied by award winning images by PSA members.  It is about 16 minutes in length and consists of 80 slides and a cassette tape.  Clubs can contact me by mail or by email to make arrangements for having me send them the show.  The postage in both directions if sent by Priority Mail is about $5.00 in each direction for a total payment due of around $10.00.  I will send the show to you and all you need do is to enclose a Priority Mail stamp in the same amount as mailed when you return the package.  Please note that you need one Carousel tray to hold the complete show and a tape player for playback of the commentary.  You can, if you wish, simply use the script and do the narration yourself.  My address is at the bottom of this page.

NOTE:  For those clubs that have a digital projector I have produced the slide show on a CD-ROM. This CD-ROM requires a Windows based computer and is about 27 megabytes in size and, dependent on the speed of your computer and the installed memory, will take up to a minute to load. If you are interested in using this program it is available for Windows based machines as a downloadable file.  Simply contact me at webmaster@psa-photo.org along with your request for FTP access to get the URL and the necessary access information.  NOTE: For Macintosh users and others who want to use a DVD player I have produced a DVD version of the program that is playable on any DVD player or drive and that can be had for $8.00 including Priority Mail.
